I think this experience has been super positive for my children. We use the time with the virtual buddy as a time of free choice for the kids. They can talk freely about any subject. With so much virtual learning and not being able to see their friends, virtual buddy time is an an outlet that has no set agenda.

Interacting through a Virtual Screen

Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 and the delay in reopening of schools, extracurriculars, and childcare facilities on the West Coast, children in the Northern California community have limited social interaction. In addition, there has been an increasing strain on parents who now care for their children full time. In an effort to alleviate the strain on families and increase social interaction for NorCal youth inside during quarantine, Virtual Youth Buddies will be coordinating with NorCal schools and families to provide tutoring and fun activities with the children virtually, without cost.

* All of our volunteer applicants go through interviews, orientation, and mandated reporter training before they are accepted.
